Obituary of Alice R. O'Brien

Alice R. O'Brien, age 92, of Gloversville, died Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Mountain Valley Hospice House, Gloversville, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born September 5, 1931, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Nelson and Alice (Gauthier) Benware. Alice was employed as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the maternity unit of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for 25 years before retiring.

She was an avid gardener, tending to a large garden of vegetables, fruits, and flowers for many years. Alice also enjoyed birdwatching, knitting, and crocheting.

Alice is survived by three children, Beth Basco, Robert Hojohn (Cathy), and Kathy Cornell (Larry); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George O'Brien; a daughter, Carol Schwed; two sons, David Reynolds and Bruce Hojohn; and several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 am to 12 noon Tuesday, May 21st at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will follow at 12 noon with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
